Becky Hope works on the front line of child protection. Every day, her job takes her into the heartbreaking lives of the most defenceless children. In order to try to protect these children from the harm they face she must be prepared to risk her own safety. Although Becky has witnessed some horrific events, her courage, optimism and wonderfully warm sense of humour help her though the most difficult days. But the thing that really keeps her going is the children. Nine-year-old Sarah came into Becky's life after being badly beaten by her mother's violent boyfriend. Becky is Sarah's only hope for a better life. Then there's Martin, a young boy who has cut himself off from the world after being thrown out by his drug-addicted mother when he was just 10 years old. Becky also tells the story of Jade and Jasmine, six-year-old twins who are found wandering the streets outside their flat after their mother overdoses. The twins had nothing, apart from the one soiled blanket they shared in their freezing bare room. This is the gripping story of one woman's battle to protect our most vulnerable children from the horrors they face at home and to give them the safe and loving lives they deserve.

It started with a simple question: How can we help them? It became an international movement called NEGU: Never Ever Give Up. When Jessica Joy Rees was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at age 11, she chose to focus not on herself but on bringing joy and hope to other children suffering from cancer. During the ten months she battled cancer, she and her family worked in the “Joy Factory” (originally their garage) making JoyJars®—packages filled with toys, games, and love for other kids with cancer. Jessie first handed them out personally at the hospital where she was being treated, but the effort blossomed quickly and there were soon thousands of JoyJars® being distributed across the United States and to over fifteen countries. Today, more than 100,000 kids have received JoyJars®, and they continue shipping each week to kids in over 200 children’s hospitals and 175 Ronald McDonald Houses. Jessie lost her battle with cancer in January 2012, but her message lives on in the Jessie Rees Foundation, which has become a beacon of hope for families fighting pediatric cancer. We need to recover a truth that has been all but lost in modern-day Christianity. It has been buried for too long, and it is too valuable to be forgotten. This life-changing truth is that the heart is the key to everything in the Christian life. The heart is the wellspring of all our actions, emotions, motives, and character. Everything we are, everything we say, and everything we do flows directly from the heart. In The Heart—The Key to Everything in the Christian Life, believers will discover how the heart is central to spiritual growth and how it will help us better reflect the image of Christ in a fallen world. The heart is the key to our service and obedience to the Father. The heart is the key to the purity and depth of our worship, praise, and love of God. It is time the Christian church once again teaches a proper understanding of the heart so that we can fully embrace and manifest the life of Christ within us.

Women who opt not to be mothers are frequently warned that they will regret their decision later in life, yet we rarely talk about the possibility that the opposite might also be true-that a woman who becomes a mother might regret it. Sociologist Orna Donath dispels the silence around this profoundly taboo subject in a powerful work that draws from her years of research interviewing women who wish they had never become mothers.Donath treats regret as a feminist issue- as regret marks the road not taken, we need to consider whether alternative paths for women may currently be blocked off. Donath asks that we pay attention to what is forbidden by our contemporary rules governing motherhood, time, and emotion, including the cultural assumption that motherhood is a "natural" role for women-for the sake of all women, not just those who regret becoming mothers. Donath finds that the women in her study became mothers for a wide variety of reasons- some did so to avoid divorce, exclusion from their family, or alienation from their friends; others did not think about it at all, but accepted it as the "next step" of what society considers to be a normal and natural life course. Others experinced regret despite initially having an strong desire to become mothers. Though they may love their children, these women each describe the agonizing guilt and suffering they have experienced as a result of becoming mothers, and consider the different ways they have each come to recognize and deal with these conflicts. If we are disturbed by the idea that a woman might regret becoming a mother, Donath says, our response should not be to silence and shame these women; rather, we need to ask honest and difficult questions about how society pushes women into motherhood and why those who reconsider it are still seen as a danger to the status quo. Groundbreaking, thoughtful, and provocative, this is an especially needed book in our current political climate, as women's reproductive rights continue to be at the forefront of nationwide debates.

New reproductive technologies, such as in vitrio fertilization, have been the subject of intense public discussion and debate worldwide. In addition to difficult ethical, moral, personal and political questions, new technologies of assisted conception also raise novel socio-cultural dilemmas. How are parenthood, kinship and procreation being redefined in the context of new reproductive technologies? Has reproductive choice become part of consumer culture? Embodied Progress offers a unique perspective on these and other cultural dimensions of assisted conception techniques. Based on ethnographic research in Britain, this study foregrounds the experiences of women and couples who undergo IVF, whilst also asking how such experiences may be variously understood.

This volume contains not one year, but two years of morning and evening devotions. For 366 additional pages of devotions have been selected from Spurgeon's writings, most of them from his Treasury of David. We have entitled this extra year of devotions, Morning and Evening II. Also the devotions of many other noted authors appear. In Spurgeon's preface to Treasury of David we find the following: ''The delightful study of the Psalms has yielded me boundless profit and ever-growing pleasure. Common gratitude constrains me to communicate to others a portion of the benefit, with the prayer that it may induce them to search further for themselves.'' These comments bare the heart of Charles Haddon Spurgeon, a preacher of righteousness, and a man after God's own heart. Anyone with only a brief acquaintance with the fruits of his pen must see that this famed but humble soul lived and breathed the Word of God. The reader of these daily devotions will quickly discover that Mr. Spurgeon did not ''keep back from declaring to you all the counsel of God'' (Acts. 20:27). In his heart he magnified the Lord; his heart panted after Him ''as the heart pants after the waterbrooks.'' Therefore, in his devotions he did not forget the teachings of Holy Scripture. These devotions which he has written for the saints of God reflect his own personal devotions. Any sincere lover of God and of His Word should cherish the many gleams of heavenly light which leap from every page of this volume. And if he biblically bears down on the doctrines of grace which have been hidden from view in this ungodly age, it will soon prove to be a blessing of the highest degree to those who ''seek to know the Lord, '' an to ''grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ'' (2 Peter 3:18) As you read these devotions day by day, may you find yourselves fervently saying, ''To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity'' (2 Peter 3:18).
